1. DeFi Platform Celsius Turns Its Crypto Deposits Into $1 Billion
Decentralized lending and borrowing platform Celsius Network has crossed $1 billion in total cryptocurrency deposits since its launch in 2018. The platform claims 80% of its total revenue to its users and has so far paid its community of cryptocurrency holders $17 million in interest rewards, $12 million of which was in Bitcoin (BTC), and $3 million in its native CEL token. 2. IOTA Releases Hornet v0.4.0, Witnesses 20x Speed Increase
IOTA, a cryptocurrency platform aimed at supporting the internet of things, has unveiled its new node software dubbed "Hornet." The node software is designed to make the network faster and is easier to run. A stress test involving a network of 150 hornet-based nodes, produced a 20-fold increase in transaction throughput with the network hitting 650 transactions per second. 3. Russia Will Use Blockchain For Voting
Residents of Moscow will be able to vote the upcoming amendments to the country’s Constitution using a blockchain-based system, according to an announcement by the Russian government. Moscow authorities claimed that distributed ledger technology will ensure the security and transparency of the voting process. Every vote will be anonymized and encrypted. 4. Tim Draper Is Giving Away $1 Million in Bitcoin
Tim Draper is giving away $1 million in Bitcoin to attendees of the Los Angeles blockchain summit in October. . According to the LA blockchain summit, every single attendee will receive $100 from Draper's blockchain-centric venture capital, Draper Goren Holm. The venture capital studio told he is prepared to give out more than $1 million in total, in an attempt to spark critical mass for crypto. 5. Report: Crypto Derivatives Trading Volumes Hit $602 Billion Record in May
In a new report Thursday, London-based data aggregator CryptoCompare found crypto derivative volumes increased 32% to $602 billion. That’s a new all-time high, squeaking past the previous record of $600 billion set in March. Most of the heavy-lifting came from Huobi, OKEx and Binance. The three exchanges made up 80% of May’s derivative activity. Huobi was the largest, with $176 billion in volume, up 29% from April. Drawing inspiration from Ethereum, Tezos may soon support domain names and human-readable addresses from the blockchain community. The project plans to sell names through an “open auction,” where bidding is public and each bid must be larger than the last. Expired domain names will then be sold on a “first-come-first-serve” basis.
